Growing up as child, I was always a huge Baltimore Orioles Fan and in 1998 I became a part time employee of the Orioles Production Crew. I started out as an intern, cameraman and worked my way up to the Director, Technical Director & editor for the Oriole Scoreboards. Over the past off-season, the Orioles have upgraded the entire ballpark entertainment system, including High Definition video. This past issue of the Baltimore Orioles Magazine features our Production Crew and the new equipment.
Inside “Central Control” by Monica Barlow, the entire 18 person crew that control all the sound, video and entertainment during all home Oriole games are highlighted. The Oriole’s video control room oversees all the entertainment throughout the ballpark including features like: Crab Shuffle, Hot Dog Race, Kiss Cam, 7th Inning Stretch, etc. In the top picture below, I can be seen in the Directors seat, calling all the camera shots for the main scoreboards. We have a total of 3 in-house camera operators and I’m also able to see a total of 8 other camera angle from MASN TV. Its a nice peek into the “organized chaos” (as I like to call it) that is video production.
Next time, you are at the Yard, give your all for the O’s and maybe I’ll put you on the big screen!!
